On April 17, a delegation from Kinsus Interconnect Technology Corp., led by Senior Director of Human Resources, Mr. Peter Lee, paid a visit to National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) with the aim of establishing a semiconductor talent development hub in eastern Taiwan.

The visit began in the morning with a meeting at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering—an existing academic partner of Kinsus—where both sides engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions and practical industry insights. In the afternoon, the delegation proceeded to NDHU’s administrative building for a high-level meeting with University President Professor Hui-Ming Hsu and senior leadership, including representatives from the Office of Research and Development, Office of International Affairs, College of Management, and College of Science and Engineering. The discussion focused on advancing the existing industry-academia partnership and exploring cross-disciplinary collaboration opportunities.

Since the 2023 academic year, NDHU’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering has been collaborating with Kinsus under the Ministry of Education’s Industry-Academia Collaboration Program. Together, they launched a specialized training initiative for practical talent development in IC substrate manufacturing. The program recruits both undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Science and Engineering. In addition to core academic training provided by NDHU faculty, the curriculum includes lectures by Kinsus professionals. Upon completion and successful assessment, students transition to on-site internships at Kinsus. Those who excel may receive direct job offers, with internship time counted toward seniority—creating a seamless bridge from graduation to full-time employment.

President Hsu expressed deep appreciation for Kinsus’ ongoing support, emphasizing the unique value this partnership brings to students, especially through generous monthly stipends exceeding NT$40,000 for undergraduate interns. He further noted that such industry integration represents a rare and valuable learning experience. To recognize the company's contributions, NDHU plans to formally express gratitude during its upcoming anniversary celebration. President Hsu also expressed hope that this collaboration can expand to other departments, including the College of Management, to benefit a broader range of students.

Mr. Peter Lee from Kinsus shared inspiring stories about NDHU students during their internships. One standout involved a student who initially doubted their ability to manage a team of over 100 people but, through dedication and rapid learning, not only met expectations but proactively extended their internship into the summer before starting graduate school—demonstrating strong commitment and passion for the company. Such stories, he said, deeply moved Kinsus staff and affirmed the potential of this ongoing collaboration.

Additionally, Dr. Chih-Ching Chiang, Deputy Vice President for International Affairs at NDHU, revealed that the university is preparing to apply for the “International Student Employment Support Program” under the Ministry of Education. The initiative aims to counter the effects of Taiwan’s declining birthrate and address the growing demand for mid- to high-level technical professionals. Dr. Chiang extended a sincere invitation for Kinsus to join as a corporate partner. In response, Kinsus affirmed its support, noting that NDHU students—both domestic and international—have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance and are highly welcomed.

The atmosphere throughout the visit was lively and collaborative, with both sides expressing strong optimism about future initiatives. Looking ahead, plans are underway to engage outstanding students as early as high school or vocational school, encouraging them to pursue studies at NDHU and take part in the Kinsus internship program. Through comprehensive training and early industry exposure, the partnership aims to create a win-win scenario for both academia and industry. To facilitate next steps, a communication network has been established via digital platforms, inviting department chairs and faculty members to join the ongoing planning and deepen this strategic talent cultivation alliance.
