The NAFSA 2025 Annual Conference & Expo was held in San Diego, California, from May 27 to 30. Seventeen universities from Taiwan participated, with a total of 43 representatives. National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) was led by President Hui-Ming Hsu, accompanied by Dr. Ming-Chien Su, Director of the Office of International Affairs, Ms. Jung-Mu Lin, Section Chief of International Student Affairs, and Ms. Li-Chi Liu, Deputy Section Chief of International Cooperation, in representing the university at this global gathering of higher education professionals.

During the event, NDHU engaged in discussions with over 30 universities from across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Meetings were held with existing partner institutions such as the University of Jaén in Spain, the University of Mannheim in Germany, and Hokkaido University in Japan. These discussions focused on promoting summer camps, reviewing ongoing collaborations, and exploring ways to deepen academic exchange and expand cooperation.

In addition, NDHU actively sought new international partnerships. Initial talks and proposals were made with institutions including Charles Sturt University (Australia), the University of Salzburg (Austria), and Linköping University (Sweden). The university aims to enhance student mobility and global engagement through diverse models such as faculty and student exchanges and co-teaching of online courses. These efforts also support the expansion of global networks across all academic departments at NDHU.

A key focus at the conference was the promotion of NDHU’s international summer camps, which received strong interest and positive feedback from both current and prospective partner institutions. The summer programs feature a wide range of themes, including environmental sustainability, humanities and social sciences, and Indigenous cultures. By combining professional learning, Mandarin language instruction, and cultural immersion, and leveraging the university’s natural surroundings, NDHU offers a high-quality and uniquely local yet international learning experience for students from around the world.

Internationalization is one of NDHU’s core development goals. The university currently hosts over 1,000 international students and maintains sister-school agreements with more than 500 institutions worldwide. Each year, approximately 500 exchange placements are offered. NDHU continues to cultivate a diverse and high-quality international learning environment to broaden global perspectives for both faculty and students. In the 2024 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, NDHU was ranked 7th in Taiwan for "International Outlook," underscoring its achievements in advancing internationalization. The university is committed to further strengthening and expanding its global collaborations in the years ahead.
