To expand its international recruitment efforts and strengthen partnerships with secondary schools in Southeast Asia, National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) joined a week-long recruitment and educational exchange tour to Malaysia from July 14 to 20. The delegation was led by Professor Wu Qing-Ji, Chancellor of the Taiwan University System of Education (TUSE), and included NDHU Director of Library and Information Services Dr. Wei-Ming Chen and Section Chief of International Student Affairs Ms. Jung-Mu Lin.

The delegation was composed of representatives from seven Taiwanese universities: Taipei Municipal University of Education, National Taichung University of Education, National Chiayi University, National University of Tainan, National Taitung University, National Chi Nan University, and NDHU. Their visit covered several key regions including Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor, with in-depth visits to numerous Chinese independent high schools and Chinese national-type secondary schools.

During the trip, the delegation conducted face-to-face presentations and Q&A sessions with students, offering insights into Taiwan’s higher education system, diverse admissions pathways, academic programs, and scholarship opportunities. These interactions enabled Malaysian students and teachers to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s internationally competitive higher education and its comprehensive support structures. NDHU actively promoted its English-taught degree programs, multilingual learning environment, and international student support services, all of which received positive responses from both students and educators.

In addition to engaging with students, the delegation held meetings with school principals to discuss academic collaboration, share teaching experiences, and explore mechanisms for future strategic partnerships and student referrals. A key theme throughout the trip was Taiwan’s outstanding performance in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor technology—demonstrating the close integration of academia, industry, and research in Taiwanese higher education. NDHU showcased its notable achievements in AI applications and expressed hope that these advancements would open new development opportunities for Malaysian students, thereby attracting more talented youth to pursue studies in Taiwan.

To date, NDHU has enrolled more than 1,000 international students from over 50 countries, including 161 students from Malaysia—making Malaysia one of its key sources of international talent. Through this visit, NDHU not only deepened its connections with local secondary schools and alumni associations in Malaysia but also reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly “Quality Education” (SDG 4), “Reduced Inequalities” (SDG 10), and “Partnerships for the Goals” (SDG 17). NDHU continues to move toward creating a diverse, inclusive, and international campus environment.
